Welcome to iPass Advanced Motorcycle Training.
Have you ever felt your motorcycle has more to offer but you don’t feel you have the skill to explore its potential? Have you found yourself too fast into a corner or maybe had a near miss with another road user? Sometimes riders look for post test training after an event while out on their bike that has left them feeling unsafe on the road. There a many reasons riders look for advanced tuition and there are many routes a rider can go such as the IAM RoadSmart(Institute for Advanced Motorcycling) or ROSPA (The Royal Society For the Prevention of Accidents).

Advanced training really is the ultimate way to get the most out of you and your machine and with good training you will discover what you and your bike can do…..
Who am I?
My name is Paddy Pollard, I run and own iPass Driver and Rider training and have a passion for road safety. I fundamentally believe that being safe on a bike does not mean you have to be slow on a bike, however all training and riding is done within the speed limits.
I am a grade A Approved Driving Instructor (Car) and hold other teaching qualifications which means, as well as being a competent and professional rider, I have the skills to identify, analyse and remedy rider faults and the communication skills to pass on my knowledge and experience to you.
You will benefit from bike to bike radio communication so every aspect of your riding can be commented on in ‘real time’.
I grew up with bikes and watching Irish Road Racing with my father and uncles. I have been riding bikes myself since 1991 when I first rode my 250 Honda Superdream followed by an XT350. I began riding daily for commuting purposes in 2003 which meant winter and city riding. This was when I first acted on improving my own skills and started my journey of advanced motorcycling.
I passed my IAM exam in 2005 and began my role as an observer for the IAM in 2007. During that same period I observed for what was then Grampian Police and the Bike Safe program.
In 2023 passed my ROSPA exam for the 3rd consecutive time with a Gold award for both Car and Motorcycle.
I have 10+ years experience in competitive racing, i currently hold a SACU race licence and take part in the Scottish Motorcycle Championships, I have also raced on many UK tracks in various other championships, dabbled in Supermoto, motocross, classic Scrambles and enduro riding, but my love is road riding and racing both of of these push me to improve my own rider skill set.……all of which puts me in a great position to help you develop your own riding skills.
My current road/ training bike is a KTM 990 Adventure. My classic motorcross bike is a Yamaha MX360 and my race bike is a tuned Aprilia RSV Mille R.
I offer two courses for riders. Both last around 3-4 hrs each, the cost is £40 per hr. All training is based around The System of Motorcycle Control, also known as IPSGA (Information, Position, Speed, Gear and Acceleration).
There is a further option to continue training beyond these levels or preparing for an advanced motorcycle test.
Level 1
Level 1 is designed for new riders, riders who lack confidence, sometimes due to having had a scary moment or two when out on their bike or riders who are returning to biking.
This course will begin with an informal chat so I can get a feel for the aspects of your riding you feel could most be improved. We will spend a short time looking over your machine to see if there are areas that we can adjust. Modern motorcycles on the whole are fantastic and capable machines and with a little time setting up tyres, suspension and brakes we can transform how it feels.
We then have a short session discussing the theory behind positioning, planning and awareness, the system of motorcycle control, cornering and balance, acceleration and braking to name a few. You will spend the rest of the session out riding with stops to debrief along the way helping you to put the technicalities into practice. The standard attained at the end of the course will mean that you are a rider on the right bike with the right settings with better knowledge and you will be able to enjoy your riding more than ever before.
Level 2
Level 2 is designed for a rider who has completed level 1 or who already has a good knowledge of advanced riding. In this course we will set your bike’s suspension specifically for you, using techniques I use at the race track. You will learn how to enhance your ability gained on level 1 to help you see and interpret detail at speed, how to develop a natural and intuitive response to hazards and deal with whatever comes your way, you’ll improve how you handle your bike so it is with greater precision and ease.
All riders must have their own road legal motorcycle and appropriate riding gear.
